It might help this wiki if I upgrade it. I am having a lot of spam problems. I did read the notes on upgrade and I am not all that clear on it. Here is the installed and running wiki http://aim.alienearmusic.com/aimw/index.php/Main_Page . It has been up for a few years and I think I upgraded once before. Right now it's info is : MediaWiki: 1.5beta3 PHP: 5.2.5 (apache) MySQL: 5.0.67-community
My questions are : 1. What steps do I need to do to upgrade it to the current version? 2. I understand I need to backup the files and database, that I will do via my hosting panels for it. Other than that, what do I need to do to prep it for upgrade?
note I do not have shell access to the server, so I need to upgrade via web interface

Hi Dale,
Have you seen this upgrade walkthrough? http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading_to_1.14 You will probably need to do http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading_to_1.14#Alternative_2:_Re-run...
You definitely want to make a backup of your database and uploads (I might even suggest of your whole code base so you can revert if necessary). But other than that it should work. I've heard the MediaWiki devs mention that they would like to know about any snags you run into because they want to make it a painless as is reasonable for people to upgrade.
Good luck, -Courtney

my concern on running the install again, I am not sure I remember all the details on the install ... I did review the Local settings file to get the info I needed to open the databases. Perhaps that is what I should do, print out the local settings file, have in hand and follow those steps.
Thanks, I will update the list here when I do this, I have some backups to do. ;-)
I did run error check and optimize the tables while I was in the databases. ;-)
