But when I invoke this on a page it only shows one article, even though I have about 100 pages throughout the wiki.

Is assume this is only counting pages in the NS_Main namespace since I only have one page in NS_Main. Is this correct? If so, how do I display the count of *all* pages in the wiki?

{{NUMBEROFPAGES}} should be what you're looking for. :)
