I had the same problem - You will most likely need to split up the SQL into smaller packages to execute with PHPMyAdmin. I wish there were an option to make the database dump in PHPMyAdmin automatically do this, but so far haven't heard of any. Anyone who knows of a workaround?

I think I fixed the problem :

in LocalSettings.php I increased the memory_limit to 64M

# If PHP's memory limit is very low, some operations may fail. ini_set( 'memory_limit', '64M' );

Restart the apache demon and it worked.

It would be nice to put this kind of information somewhere in metawiki, in [[Mysql Management Problems]] ?
