I want to transclude the contents of a special page into a regular article. For example, the contents of Special:Version into the About page. I've attempted doing so by including {{Special:Version}} within the page, but this doesn't seem to work.
Is this even possible somehow?

Some special pages are coded to be includable, and can be transcluded into articles as normal, although sometimes the results are dubious (due to parser caches, etc).
Special:Version is not an includable special page, so it doesn't work for that. What information from the page did you want? IIRC, the version number of the software is exposed as a magic word - CURRENTVERSION.
