Hi, I was trying to upgrade from Version 1.10 to 1.14 and ended up with data corruption. Apparently, there is something wrong with my /includes/media files:
*Warning*: imagesx(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource in * /home/aseanped/dummipedia.org/includes/media/Bitmap.php* on line *210
*Error is visible on Firefox at Dummipedia.orghttp://dummipedia.org/Free_Simplified_Online_Encyclopediabut returns empty pages in Internet Explorer. **I tried to restore the database but apparently, the same errors still remain. How can I resolve this problem. (Fortunately, in shifting the website, I still maintain my website with my old webhost so all is not lost.) I have always have a fear of upgrading as I haven't done it before and haven't been able to do it. Just couldn't understand the manual, LOL.

When you restored the database, did you run the update.php script in /wiki/maintenance/?
If so, check that the database does not contain a table in need of repair. Check the MySQL manual - these repairs are easy.

Hi Mike, thank you very much. I will try tomorrow... still in a daze, LOL.

Hi Mike, I just repaired the database. Seems like the database is not corrupted as there is apparently no difference after I repaired and optimized it.
If you see this homepagehttp://dummipedia.org/Free_Simplified_Online_Encyclopediausing Firefox (IE shows a blank page), the problem is with only 2 lines in the includes/media/Bitmap.php file, i.e.:
- */includes/media/Bitmap.php* on line *210* - *includes/media/Bitmap.php* on line *217*
Do you think replacing the bitmap file with the original 1.10 version will help?

You didn't answer my other question:

Hi Mike, I am using a shared hosting with maiahost. How do I run the the update.php script on a shared server?

If you don't have shell access, you can upgrade to a new major version and perform the necessary DB changes by rerunning the web installer.
Hi Schnee. Thank you very much for your advice. Actually rerunning the web installer was what I did.
I will see if my webhost can help me to run the script as suggested by Mike. So far, they have been very helpful, unless this takes a lot of their time.

If you ran the web installer, there is no need to run update.php separately, as it is included in the web installer. *However*, if you restored the database from a prior version *after* running the installer, then you *do* have to run update.php on the restored, older database to bring it up to the most recent version.
There are options, such as PHP shell (http://phpshell.sourceforge.net/) that might work for your hosted service if they do not provide a means for you to run a script.
Once you have run the update.php script, check the database again to see if it needs to be repaired.

The database is not corrupted. The error you gave indicates that you have uploaded a corrupt or missing image file, which is causing GD to fail to load the image from disk into memory. You may have forgotten to copy your image files across from your old webhost. You need to copy the whole images directory.
It's possible to see this when you do an apparently unrelated change in server configuration, because if you were previously using ImageMagick, that may have worked just fine, but now it can't find the ImageMagick "convert" utility and so is using GD, which is giving this error.
At the heart, the issue is a bug. It is an insufficiently informative error message.
Note that Michael Daly and Scheelocke are completely wrong and following their suggestions won't do any good.

Yes, yes, rub it in. ;)
While we're on the subject, does anyone know what this means?
-- A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

from within function "Article:getHiddenCategories". MySQL returned error "1146: Table 'donschae_tikiwiki.mw_page_props' doesn't exist (localhost:/tmp/mysql5.sock)". --
Moved from 1.13.3 to x.4. Both before and after re-running the "installer" (as my preferred update method), I could see the site fine, but after logging in I can't "edit" any pages, getting the above error instead.

Thanks for any insight.

Hi Tim, you are right. Siteground uses ImageMagick but not Maiahost, my new webhost. Maiahost did set up the website correctly for me using GD and it was running fine.
I did a backup of this "new" database before I upgrade it to Mediawiki 1.14 but it didn't work. What I did was to set up a new wiki, using the latest Mediawiki version, but linking it to the old database. Many errors were generated because I forgot to transfer the image folder. When I did after realizing the mistake, most of the errors disappear, leaving only those errors relating to two lines of codes in includes/media folder. Otherwise, everything looks fine.
Fortunately, I asked Maiahost to keep the website at Sitegroundhttp://e-komputer.info/Free_Simplified_Online_Encyclopediarather than moving it during the transfer, otherwise it is the end of my two years' effort. Maiahost is helping me restore the database (I gave them the wrong location for the backup and they couldn't find it, LOL. Real screwed up.) Let's see if it works.
