Is there an easy way to search the archives?
Or must one open each month's archive and search?
Thanks, Terry

Normally, we use the repository at gmane to search... but it took me a long time to find it too ... :-)

François,
Merci, mais...
It took me a bit of head scratching to figure out what to put in the list field of the search form. It turns out to be
gmane.org.wikimedia.mediawiki

Thanks a lot to you too,
up to now, I just searched all the lists... but my searched were technical, so I only ended up with technical stuff...
Now you can write a mediawiki search how to ;-)

Personally, I tend to search them within my e-mail account, having been subscribed for some months now and it being GMail and therefore quite good at such things.
But the more general way, which I also use, is to add "site:mail.wikimedia.org" to a Google query. Obviously, that then searches *all* the lists, but you can always add the name of the list, or anything else appropriate, if you really need to narrow things down.

I downloaded all the archives and brought them into Apple Mail as an mbox. Now the search box on Mail does the archive search for me.

I think it is a common problem for newcomers. Why doesn't the list manager software send a short text to people as the welcome message telling a couple ways of doing search in the archives?
It'd be helpful in decreasing the traffic on the list a bit.
