Mediawiki version - 1.16.0 (r74364)
I have been running some experiments in moving pages to a newly created Archive namespace. I created some test pages and moved two with redirects and two without redirects, so that I could look for unwanted side-effects. I also marked those four pages with __NOINDEX__. Up to that point everything seemed fine.
A new category was automatically created - Noindexed_pages. All four of the pages now in the Archive namespace bear a link to that category, yet when I use the link I find that only one of the four pages is listed.
Is this a bug, or have I missed something important?

Did you try purging the category?

No. Since it was created automatically I don't feel comfortable in messing with it. It doesn't feel as though it should be handled as any normal category. Do you know any reading about such automatically-created categories?

Purging doesn't cause any changes: it just forces the system to regenerate some things.[0] I think it's normal for categories to exhibit this "sticky" behavior, and the job queue might also be involved (but I might be misremembering and making the whole thing up).
Might also try the MagicNoCache extension (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MagicNoCache). This extension creates a magic word (__NOCACHE__) that disables the cache for that page.

OK, trusting you, I tried the purge. Unfortunately it still shows only the one page on the Category page list.

I have added:-
$wgExternalLinkTarget = '_blank';
And external links now open in a new tab as I wanted. Except for external link I have added in the "navigation" and "toolbox" sections. Can I correct this?

Don't understand this it was a new thread. Original e-mail below. Just as puzzling is that your post can through twice.
Any way thanks for the suggestion. I've looked at it but I'm not clear as to how I implement it.

Hi,
if you want to start a new thread in this mailing-list, you have to post a new mail. If you answer an existing mail and just change the subject, that won't start a new thread, but continue the old thread with a new subject.
Greetings Katharina

Hmm
That's what I've always done in the past and it worked fine. When did it change? It seems absolutely intuitive that changing the subject starts a new thread, it's a habit I use all the time with e-mail.

Hi Charlie,
afaik it's dependent on the mailing-list concerned and perhaps the mediawiki-l-list is just a bit different than most others... ;-)

Possibly. How would one know it was doing that unless one visited the archive? It comes through with the subject correct.

Hi Charlie,
what kind of mail-client are you using? If you have the option of using a thread-view (e.g. in Thunderbird) you'll be able to see the difference.

It's not about the subject, it's about the the message header, which is what the forum software uses to sort messages. I had to be corrected by Tim on this very subject once.

Just put the following JavaScript code in your wiki's MediaWiki:Common.js page:
// Anything in this function wrapper will be executed when the page is ready for action ( function( $ ) { $( document ).ready( function() {
// Open external links in the sidebar in a new window $( '#mw-panel, #panel' ) // #panel is for pre-1.17 compatibility .find( 'li a' ) .filter( '[href^=http://], [href^=https://]' ) .attr( 'target' , '_blank' ); } ); } )( jQuery );

I've added it to MediaWiki:Common.js but it changes nothing. I have tried clearing the cache and also accessing the URL using another browser that hasn't accessed the wiki before. No difference.

Just noticed that there a a rogue line break in my e-mail below. My common.js reads:-
/* Any JavaScript here will be loaded for all users on every page load. */
// Anything in this function wrapper will be executed when the page is ready for action ( function( $ ) { $( document ).ready( function() {
// Open external links in the sidebar in a new window

Do you use the latest version of MediaWiki (at least 1.16)?
