We have an internal Mediawiki 1.15 running on our corporate LAN. We have started to create a page for each of our products and we have a technical name and a non-technical name for each of the products. So for example, let's say a product's engineering name would be "IPZY-112" and its corresponding non-technical name would be "Tiger".
Is there a way we to create an alias title (Tiger) for the page with title "IPZY-112"?
We thought about IPZY-112 (Tiger) but it wouldn't work since half of the company refers as Tiger and other half as IPZY-112.
Is there any better way?
Thanks!

Yes, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Redirect

The simplest solution would be to redirect to one of the pages that has the content. Or both names could redirect to a combined name. On Jan 10, 2011 10:15 AM, "Tech Geek" techgeek12345@gmail.com wrote:

Hi,
When you create a page named page1 and you want alias1 to be the alias you should create the page alias1 like this;
#redirect [[page1]]
alias1 will now forward to page1

Thanks guys. I think that should do the trick!
Or,
1. create the page under one of the names 2. then use the "move" tab to rename it. 3. Moving will cause the 2nd name to become the same name, and the first name will redirect to it. 4. (I assume this just puts in a #REDIRECT command
I believe that wiki's search can be configured to show both the "main" & "secondary" names, or only the main ones. (But I'm not sure).
Also, more than one level of redirect does not work. E.g.,
1. you create an article titled "SX-445-D" 2. you move (rename) it to "wildcat" 3. you then move (rename) "wildcat" to "puma"
then going to "SX-445-D" will no longer automatically redirect you to "puma". You'll have to edit "SX-445-D" & change its redirect from "wildcat" to "puma" (I hope this was clear)

Alternatively, the wiki can do it for you by setting in your LocalSettings.php
$wgFixDoubleRedirects = true;
It will get messy if your wiki gets page-moving vandals, but for Tech Geek internal wiki, it'd fit perfectly.
