Hi,
Recently my wiki site got attacked by somebody using API and thousands of pages and users were created. So I had to re-image the VM (ubunto 14.04) and installed 1.26.0 and manually re-created the wiki from scratch Then encountered some difficulty setting up proper user group privileges to protect the site from vandalism.
First, I disabled ('false') 'createpage' for all user groups '*' like below in LocalSettings.php. But it looked like disabled administrator creating pages. So I added another line with 'sysop' to allow it. But it still doesn't allow. I created a new user group and allowed "createpage", and this works. So I'm wondering why an administrator can't create a page.
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['createpage'] = false; $wgGroupPermissions['sysop']['createpage'] = true;
Does anyone know why this doesn't work?
Toshi
Does your account have the sysop group in Special:UserRights? There's also an admin, or administrator group.

Never mind. I edited the LocalSettings.php file on my local machine where I originally created a replica of the new wiki site before backing it up and restored it at the actual VM host after reimaging. Then I thought I changed it at the VM host. I added the second line to allow it for 'sysop' now at the real site and it's working.
Since at Special:UserRights I don't see 'sysop' but it worked, I think I just confirmed "adminitrator = sysop" as described in some discussions on the internet. Mediawiki's doc pages are not particularly clear about how to construct $wgGroupPermissions in the LocalSettings.php file.
