Is there a search limitation with mediawiki? I can enter plain text words and phrases into the go|search field and it generally works just fine but if that text is in the format of say something like this SOX-1.2 or PCI 1.2.3 it fails.
Are there different ways to make better searches? Is there a limitation to finding information in my wiki that I have not found in the documentation?

MySQL has a minimum word length in its full-text search. The default is 5 characters. You'll need to adjust this option (ft_min_word-len) in the [mysqld] and [myisamchk] sections on the MySQL config file (my.cnf). Then restart MySQL. Then, to rebuild the MediaWiki text index, run "php maintenance/rebuildtextindex.php" from the MediaWiki root directory.

Also the MySql text searching is by word. It's not clear from the documentation just what MySql considers to be a word, so even if the minimum word length is lowered, I'm not sure what efffect the numeric parts of the searchs in the OP would have.
