Hi,
does sb. know how to remove an old entry from the http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/mediawiki-l/ list ? I don't want my name to be published there. Because when my name is googled, everyone can read everything about me. Plz. dont reply that I had to know this before I subscribed, that does not anzwer my question.
Thanks in advance

Just wait for Google to update its entries for mail.wikipedia.org; archives are now excluded from such searches and we've moved to an internal search engine. (Remember it'll continue to appear in Google searches until Google updates, whether it's removed from the site or not.)

That's sad. Now people looking for information on MediaWiki using search engines won't find the valuable info of this list. I've used that several times to learn about MediaWiki.

On the one hand, I'd agree with Fernando here.
On the other hand though, I have to admit that I, too, feel somewhat uneasy about the exposure of my real name here. So I'm glad to hear that this exposure is only temporary (or is it - Google retains its index/cache for quite a long time, doesn't it?). Sure, I could have used an alias for posting on this list, but I think that's often considered impolite. After all, due to the "push factor", mailing lists are a little more personal than message boards or forums.

First, please trim your posts and don't top-post.
To answer your question, search harder - there is an FAQ on gmane.org here: http://gmane.org/faq.php
This might help:
How do I get in contact with the administrators? Send a mail to Lars or post to the gmane.discuss newsgroup list.
But the short answer to "how do I delete information from someone else's website?" is "you don't". Even asking politely might not do it.
Also remember that whatever you sent out has been deposited on millions of other computers and there's no way of undoing that. Also, there are other search engines other than Google etc which may maintain your posts. That, and there are some internet archives which keep track of mailing lists, websites, etc.
Just assume that everything you write is public and permanent. You'll get used to it. =)
I'll admit, I was annoyed to find some of my old BBS postings from 1996 and earlier .. but after a while I've grown to find that sort of thing rather amusing.
