I am trying to install my first Mediawiki site and have a problem. My system settings on ReadyHosting.com indicates that it is running MySQL version 4.1.22 which meets Mediawiki requirements; however, when I try to install Mediawiki I get the error message "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'VMSSQL01'." Checking to see if I had the database set up properly, I discovered it is actually MS SQL. Will Mediawiki work with MS SQL? I have not been able to find a reference to MS SQL in any of the help files.
Readyhosting claims to use MySQL. How did you decide they are using MS SQL instead?
I know. That is why it was such a surprise to me. On the Control Panel under Scripting and Add ons it clearly says "MS SQL Database" and the way you set up the database is different than with the typical MySQL database. I submitted a support ticket to ReadyHosting and so far they have not been helpful. I am trying to get MS SQL replaced with MySQL, but I doubt if they will do that.

Some basic help please.
I am new to Mediawiki and have just set up my first site. I can not figure out how to get images to appear in an edited page. According to the edit instructions, entering [[File:example.jpg|center|100px|caption]] should work, but I get just the word caption as a link to example.jpg. I do not want a link, I want the actual image to display. Is there a switch that needs to be set for this? The image is in the images directory.
Second problem is that in the navigation box only the Main selection works. Are there switches for the other items, especially for Help?
Thanks, Gary

You uploaded the image through Special:Upload, right? It sounds like you don't have the right renderer installed/enabled. See http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Image_Administration#Image_thumbnailing

I don't understand the question. Do you want to remove the other items, or do you want to change them, or are you wondering why they link to pages that don't exist?
Hi,
about the first question: did you try to write first letter as uppercase? [[File:Example.jpg|center|100px|caption]]
