Hello all,
Is there an elegant way to have the automatically created Table of Contents also take into account headings from subpages?
Let's say we're composing a manual, which consists of several chapters (and maybe even sub-chapters): 1. Introduction 2. Basics 2.1. Installation 2.2. Setup Now each of those (sub-)chapters has its own subpage: Manual Manual/Introduction Manual/Basics Manual/Basics/Installation Manual/Basics/Setup
The resulting ToC might then look somewhat like the following:
= Introduction = == Legal Disclaimer == == Copyright Notice ==
= Basics =
== Installation == === Requirements === === Download === === Installation Process ==
== Setup == === Network Configuration === === User Configuration ===
I figure this wouldn't be easy (also because of the order in which to include the respective subpages) - but maybe someone has thought of this before!? If not, we'll just create the ToC manually (maybe making use of transclusion to include the subpages in an extra page, which would then contain the ToC).
Thanks,
F.

Er... ToC takes into account the subpages headings http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Sandbox&oldid=119738...
Thanks for the response, Platonides.

I have to admit I can't figure out how that page is to prove that subpages are taken into account in a ToC.
So I've put up a test on Wikia's Scratchpad (MW v1.9.3): http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/Sandbox/Subpage_lvl1 http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/Sandbox/Subpage_lvl1/Subpage_lvl2 Look at the ToC on the first page; it does not include the headings from the level 2 page.
I'll give it another try on our own wiki tomorrow though.

That shows transcluded pages, not subpages.

I think the best you can get is to an automated list of the subpages, not the TOC from them.
{{Special:Prefixindex/Sandbox/Subpage lvl1/}}

And I thought I was being stupid again...

Yeah, that's what I expected - well, it didn't hurt to ask...
Thanks!
