Thanks, will look at it. I was hoping to do this without extensions, but it does not seem possible. A bit frustrating, as it's "almost there"!
I don't care about the frame being there or not, or the link to the original image when you click on the reduced image itself, being there or not. I just need to be able to put a caption under the reduced image without the "little box to go to the original image" icon.
Appreciate the advice.

Take a look at the Imagemap extension. It provides the ability to produce an image without any link to the image page nor any little button.
