From the last release candidate to the release, I would expect only very
minor
changes ...

You're right: There only changes will probably be a few backported fixes.
The standard upgrade procedure remains unchanged, however. You could
replace the changed files yourself, but that would be needlessly risky and
probably more trouble than it's worth. (As I said, it might be handier for
you if you could just apply a patch, but that may not be an option.)
