I'm trying to transclude a section in a given document, with something like
{{:Article#SectionA}}
However, I get the entire contents of Article, not just SectionA. Am I missing something? I'm running MediaWiki 1.8.2.

No such feature exists at this time. (But consider the LabeledSectionTransclusion extension, which works a little differently.)

If that's the only section you want to transclude (ie. the other sections aren't transcluded elsewhere) then you should be able to get what you want by putting <onlyinclude></onlyinclude> around that section (or possibly includeonly... I might be remembering them the wrong way around).

As far as I can tell, that only works for transclusion from templates, not from articles. If I use <includeonly>...</includeonly> in an article, it does not show the text. Is there a secret to get it to work for articles?
Mike
You can duplicate the section. For example, have the same text in a <includeonly></includeonly> and then again in a <noinclude></noinclude>

As far as I know, transclusion works exactly the same way regardless of namespace. Try onlyinclude instead.

It looks like <includeonly> is for templates and <onlyinclude> is for articles. They don't do exactly the same thing.
Now I know :)

They should both work in both namespaces. One shows only the bit inside when the page is transcluded, the other shows the bit inside only when the page is transcluded. I can just never remember which is which.
So one could be called <transcludeonlythis> and the other <onlyiftranscluded> //whew! Hard work! <grin>//
