I strongly recommend upgrading to a current version of MediaWiki instead; the current release is 1.11.0. 1.7 is very old and will have a lot of bugs and lacks features present in newer versions.

This wouldn't appear to have anything to do with MediaWiki. Confirm that your MySQL installation and files are not corrupt and that you don't have severe damage to your MySQL user permissions.

Try Googling for the error message and other people who have encountered it.
