Hello,
I'm trying to move mediawiki to another server. Everything was fine until i discovered that all special characters on wiki_page table were messed up. I really don't know what is going on because on the other tables all those special characters like ã or ó are ok.
On the old server i'm using MySQL 5.0.24 and on the new server i have 5.0.27.
What should i do?
Thanks!
Just adding some information.
I'm NOT using the "Experimental charset support for MySQL 4.1/5.0." and i have moved the database using a dump from phpmyadmin.

Did you pay attention to the charset upon import? I found that depending on the charset in your wiki, you need to use "Latin1" for the import to work correctly.
best wishes,

When exporting, ensure that the character set is kept as latin1. When importing, ensure that the character set is kept as latin1. MySQL will "helpfully" try to convert, and this will usually break things.

Hello,
Here is what i'm trying. I go to phpmyadmin on the old server. Click on export and save it as a .zip package on my computer. Them i go to phpmyadmin on the new server. Click on import, select 'latin1', select the .zip file on my computer and import it. That's not working.
On the old server looking directly into the database i see
Página_principal
On the wiki_page table. When i view at mediawiki i see Página principal (which means Main Page and that's correct).
But when i view into the database at the new server i see
Página_principal
And on the wiki i see Página principal

Forget phpMyAdmin. The export function completely breaks non-ASCII encodings for MediaWiki. I think this happens because MediaWiki uses a Latin1 charset to store UTF-8.
All my problems regarding export/import MediaWiki databases were fixed once I started using mysqldump command-line utility to do the dumps.
Hello,
It worked! That was a problem in phpmyadmin.
Also i have seen some entries on the wiki that tells the user to backup using phpmyadmin. I guess this should be removed since, like me, he won't be able to restore his backup without breaking non-ASCII characters.
Thank you!
