I tried this, with errors. Special:Export XML script loaded in the webbrowser, then I copied the script to notepad. Saved it as import.xml, then tried Special:Import on my wiki (1.5rc4). I get the following error:
"Import failed: : not well-formed (invalid token)"

Sounds odd. Have you tried saving the XML file directly from the browser, as opposed to copy-and-paste? Perhaps the browser's inserting text at the top or bottom, although that would be obvious enough to avoid when copy and pasting.
If you want me to have a go at getting the XML file, let me know.

I get the exact same error when trying to import. It doesn't like the format of the XML that's being exported. I'll probably be able to spend time on this later today or tomorrow. If I find anything I'll post it.
