I am a new user of mediawiki and I am having a hell of a time installing it. I keep getting this error -
- PHP 5.1.6 installed Could not find a suitable database driver! - For *MySQL*, compile PHP using *--with-mysql*, or install the mysql.so module - For *PostgreSQL*, compile PHP using *--with-pgsql*, or install the pgsql.so module
and I am baffled because I am an experienced administrator. I am using apache 2.2.3, mysql 5.0.27, FC4, and php 5.1.6. All of the software were installed from source. I have installed xwiki and others with no problems. What am I missing here? My research has not turned up anything. the docs at mediawiki do not help either.
Appreciate any help!
TIA,
GM

As the error states, looks like PHP isn't hooked up to MySQL properly. Create a phpinfo file (just <? phpinfo(); ?> in the .php file) and open it up in your browser.
You should see an entire section for MySQL. If you don't, that's where you should narrow your search (probably not an Apache or MediaWiki problem).
I had this problem when I installed MW, but it was on Windows, so YMMV.

As an experienced administrator, it's easy to miss the simple things... BT,DT...
Have you enabled PHP in Apache? Have you restarted Apache since installing PHP?
