Been trying to work out how to run small collaborative group wikis off the one install and it looks like WikiFarms might be the way to go. However, I can't seem to figure out the details of how wikicities or wikipedia have done it...
I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I wrote a script that created a directory structure, then hard-linked or copied (as appropriate) the various WikiPedia files. Then you edit the copied ones, and the hard-linked ones work as though they were a copy.

Thanks Jamie, Jan. I think Jamie's suggestion will do what I need. I just needed confirmation that you needed a separate instance of tables for each and where to get it to do the decision making. :)
(ie. I wasn't sure if there was Magic(TM) involved ;)
