Does anyone know how a MediaWiki extension goes from the beta release status to a stable release status ? We are interested in this extension, but worried that it does not have a stable release status. https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/mediawiki/wiki/Extension:GraphViz

They're entirely arbitrary--extension authors set the stability based on what they feel is appropriate. There's no formal system to it and an extension marked as "beta" may very well be stable (or vice versa).
