Hi all,
I've tried following these instructions over and over again and I end up with Help that doesn't seem to link anywhere:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Installation-Software_Configuration#Inte...:
Running version 1.6.10, just installed and imported data from a phpwiki.
I don't have much data to share, but the permanent "Help" link on the left points to http://mysite.com/mediawiki/index.php/Help:Contents which is a non-existent page even after following the above instructions.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Charles

I'll add a bit more to my question, perhaps someone can help figure this out.
My understanding is that to get an interwiki link, you form it like so:
MetaWikiPedia:Help:Contents
The first section before the colon is a meta link as defined in the interwiki db table. For example:
mysql> select * from interwiki where iw_url like '%meta%'; +---------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+----------+----------+ | iw_prefix | iw_url | iw_local | iw_trans | +---------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+----------+----------+ | JargonFile | http://sunir.org/apps/meta.pl?wiki=JargonFile&redirect=$1 | 0 | 0 | | MetaWiki | http://sunir.org/apps/meta.pl?$1 | 0 | 0 | | MetaWikiPedia | http://meta.wikipedia.org/wiki/$1 | 0 | 0 | +---------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+----------+----------+ 3 rows in set (0.00 sec)
The stuff after the colon is the path to the page you want on the remote wiki.
None of this seems to work on my installation - if I make a link like this in a page:
Metawikipedia:Help:Contents
It just tries to make a local page with that name.
What am I missing here? I have not touched any interwiki settings in LocalSettings.php.
Thanks,
Charles

Hi Charles,
Make sure that your LocalSettings.php has the line: $wgLocalInterwiki = $wgSitename;
Beyond that, have you looked at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Interwiki_linking?
Good luck! -Courtney

Hi Charles,

I do have that set, and $wgSitename is also set, ie: $wgSitename = "FooWiki";
Beyond that, have you looked at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Interwiki_linking?
Yeah, that helped me figure out how my external help links should work, but it seems like for some reason the whole interwiki thing just isn't working...
Thanks,
Charles

HI,
Bug at the frontier between Php and Css ? My wiki meets something wrong like html strings (<span>, etc) that appears because of some Template, with the same effect when a error of scriping css in the columns of a wikitable (errors with || especially)
For exempel by using the on my wiki, I obtain <div style="clear:both;" /> http://wp.mgbz-briey.net/index.php?title=Mod%C3%A8le:Clr
And I fail in installing good template like http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projet:Math%C3%A9matiques -> the effect is not very nice http://wp.mgbz-briey.net/index.php?title=MGBZ-Asso:Accueil ( the show must go on, I'll keep for your eyes until this evening
Thank's if you hav ean idea * a little kraken creeping in my server ? (;O) * a mistake in a Template like * perharps a missing extensions in LocalSettings **? * or another detail ?

I :::am::: sorry - and with nothing but the highest respect for Dr. Burté, I could not help but smile.
It seems that the cockroach in the transistor has now become much more worrisome. I am grateful that I do not live near any bodies of water large enough to support sea monsters in my computer!

Hi Steve, They just also are some ..**gremlins** for a while on Earth ;O))
about my pb, that seams to run better since (I cross fingers) .. I have cleared some little html tag "errors" in the code of the few templates I have picked on Mediawiki = perhaps <clear both; /> is well running on the computers of the Wikimedia Foundation, but not in France ;O)) .. or some inapparent errors with links that break the Parser Functions ? A little exercise to simplify the code is ever good.
Sure I will also meet some other bugs because I try to mix a lot of common.css and common.js and other mediawiki:definitions that come from differents wiki, with perharps some confusions that come with ... good, I also have some nights to spend to my Project ;O) @+ ... and have a cool swim in the river without Krakens !

Thank you so much!
That's it. Manually loaded the sql from the interwiki.sql file in the maintenance dir and all is well. Never would have found that on my own.
Thanks again,
Charles

That did fix it, but before I close it up, perhaps someone can help me debug something else here...
I added the following:
INSERT into interwiki VALUES ('Mantis','https://foo.com/mantis/view.php?id=$1%27,%270%27,%270')
Wanted to use that to make quick links to our bug tracking system.
It's in the db and looks like the other entries, but linking to it just links to a local wiki page. My link is in the form Mantis:100 which should link out to https://foo.com/mantis/view.php?id=100
How do I troubleshoot this?
Thanks,
Charles
