Hi there,
sorr, I'm not too familiar with the terminology... But how do I remove the part in front of the colon in page titles?
Like remove the "User:" in "User:Peter", or "Special:" in "Special:Search" to just get "Peter" or "Search" as page titles?
Been looking for it myself, but didn't manage to find where that string is being generated :(
Thanks for your quick help !
Florian
I don't know if it can be removed from the page titles. It is an important part of the information about the page (its namespace).
But you can remove it from links in pages, like this:
[[Special:Newpages|What's new...]]

If you do so, how will you (and most important : how will your server) make any difference between the *article* Peter or the main namespace and the *userpage* User:Peter of the User namespace ? ;-)
e.g. if you remove "User:" in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Cat, you will find http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat which is the wikipedia's article about Cat and has nothing to do with the User:Cat (I don't know him but welcome on the mailing list)
(just wondering)

Ok, I'm deeply sorry, I didn't read carefully, I thought you were talking about urls (which I'm still wondering whether it can be used without User: )
to remove this, in monobook.php (1.8.2) , find the line :
<h1 class="firstHeading"><?php $this->data['displaytitle']!=""?$this->html('title'):$this->text('title') ?></h1>
and replace the two ('title') with ('titletext')
<h1 class="firstHeading"><?php $this->data['displaytitle']!=""?$this->html('titletext'):$this->text('titletext') ?></h1>
Alexis
PS : same thing in the <head> of monobook.php : change <title><?php $this->text('pagetitle') ?></title> to <title><?php $this->text('titletext') ?></title>

looks like my e-mail get lost (posted 5 hours ago and still not in the mailing list), (sorry if this answer is received two times)
in monobook.php (mediawiki 1.8.2) , find the line :

Hi,
I've just moved some pages, and deleted the redirect, and now even though those pages exist, I can not see any more of them in Special:Newpages.
I would like to have those pages shown in Special:Newpages
Any clue of how I could fix that?
Thanks a lot, mauro. _________________________________________________ Server: MediaWiki: 1.6.8 PHP: 4.3.11 (apache) MySQL: 4.1.20-max-log phpMyAdmin - 2.8.0.1 * no access to shell command

Hi,
Any one has successfully installed this extension googleSiteMap.php http://opensource.case.edu/svn/MediaWikiHacks/extensions/GoogleSitemaps/trun...
I have installed a fresh version of wikimedia 1.6.8, and right after installed the extension googleSiteMap, but unfortunately I've not got any map so far...
You can check my googleSiteMap.php here http://168.carmo.info/wiki/googleSiteMap.php.
I guess this is a very good tool for the ones who have small wikis, because one can use the googlesitemap as a feedfecher.
Thanks a lot, mauro. _________________________________________________ Server: MediaWiki: 1.6.8 PHP: 4.3.11 (apache) MySQL: 4.1.20-max-log phpMyAdmin - 2.8.0.1 * no access to shell command

It appears to be working fine, the fist page tells the sitemap crawler to visit the following for the sitemap. http://168.carmo.info/wiki/googleSiteMap.php?page=0

Dear Alexis,
thank you very much for your help. This is a much more elegant solution than my quick&dirty explode... workaround.
Best regards to all,
Florian
