For some reason, on pages that I search for that do not exist (that I want to create), I get this message when I search for them: *You can < a href=":FAQ" class="new" >create an article with this title< /a
Please search Wikipedia before creating an article to avoid duplicating an
existing one, which may have a different name or spelling.*
The spaces that I included above are not in the actual message, so I don't see why that HTML tag would not be working.
Second, why does it say "search WikiPEDIA" when this is my Wiki? This happens when I'm logged into my SysOp account. I did add a line to my LocalSettings.php from the MediaWiki documentation, to prevent page edits when users are not logged in, but I don't know why those errors would be occurring out of the blue like that. Thank you! ~Azurite

Go to the MediaWiki:Nogomatch page on your wiki and edit it so that it contains something like
"No page called $1; you can create this article"
or similar. This doesn't work with MediaWiki < 1.5.x.

It won't work if the message is expected to be wiki text, which it isn't.

Your wiki might have been installed using an older, messed-up language file, which still contained a hard-coded reference ot the Wikimedia projects. These have been cleaned up in newer versions of the software.
See Special:Allmessages on your wiki for a list of customisable interface text pages.

Thank you, I managed to fix that error by editing the text on the MediaWiki:Nogomatch page. The only strange thing is that whatever term I input in the search box comes up with a colon (:) before it if the article does not exist, like so: There is no page called *:Puppyshipping*; you can create this articlehttp://www.seventh-star.net/wikific/index.php?title=Puppyshipping&action=edit In the edit page, it says "There is no page called $1; you can create this article" (but without the double quotes), so I don't know where the colon is coming from, other than the fact that colons appear on pages that have not yet been created - but I've never seen them in results before! Also, the Wikipedia reference was on the Nogomatch page, so I believe removing it will remove any references to Wikipedia, right? Thanks again, ~Azurite
I had some problems too.
I set : <h2>No page with this title exists</h2> <h4>Do you want to create article « $1 » ?</h4>
Try it, or something like that.

Wow, that worked out great -no more funny colons or anything! Thank you! ~Azurite
Regarding the colon, I'm seeing the same thing when doing:
search for it using Google

The colon's needed so that if someone searches for , it doesn't fuck up and try to put the message page in a category.
As of MediaWiki 1.7, there's a second option, $2, passed to the nogomatch message, which has the search term sans colon, for pretty formatting purposes.

The colon belongs in the message text, not in the parameter.

You've stated an opposing view when it was brought up prior to this. Of course, we could change it.

Perhaps I was on crack?
Of course, we could change it.
That would probably make sense.

Well, Mr. Vibber, you know what we say about that around here, don't you?
(Got any left?)
Of course, we could change it.
That would probably make sense.
On it some time this week.

Awesome, I'll put that on my reminder list. =)
