Hi, I was just wondering, instead of upgrading my existing wiki to the new version, can I install another one fresh and then point it to the same DB? Would this work?
- thanks - AJ
Yes it will work. You just have to provide the same DB name, DB username and DB password. And then set the URLs properly, especially if you are using 'clean URLs'. (which can be done in various ways)

Great, will try this out, are there any issues of the new wiki overwriting the existing tables? If not I assume the "setup" process is skipped.. yes?

Nope. The setup process will detect your existing installation and run updates if necessary. This is how I do updates to our MW. Just be sure to put in the same data as when you first installed it. Your DB will then be updated to the latest version you are using.
I suggest you try it first outside of your production wiki, and if you're satisfied with the results, then you can do it for your production wiki.
Although, why do you want to create a new installation in a new folder? I just overwrite the existing ones when its a minor or fix release. Then if its major, that's when I do a full folder deletion before uploading the new version.
^_^
Hope that helps.
