I assume you also copied over the corresponding CSS at some point? Try fetching an updated version of that.
Maybe the corresponding CSS is at MediaWiki:Monobook.css and he's using Vector in 1.16 ?
(solution: move to MediaWiki:Common.css, or MediaWiki:Vector.css if skin-specific)
