I was skimming through the mediawiki template help page, and
thought I understood the examples. So I copied the Template:Infobox Page from the Mediawiki to my wiki. But instead of getting simply {{{LANGUAGE1}}} appearing on a gray background, I got the outline of an Infobox preceded by a bunch of "#if"s. Can anyone explain why? Thanks.
Infoboxes are some of the most complex templates that everyone seems to copy.
You'll need to install the ParserFunctions extension and enable Tidy. You'll also need to copy any CSS required by template from the Wikipedia Mediawiki:Common.css page to the same-named page on your wiki.
It's likely you'll have to copy a few other templates such as Template:! and Template:!-. If you look at the edit page for the Infobox template, you'll see a list of embedded templates at the bottom of the page - without these, Infobox won't work.
