No, the version is coming from PHP, which knows what version it is. Red Hat doesn't muck up the version numbers upstream like that.
I have used an older version of MediaWiki 1.6.10 which works fine. Any way to get past this ABORTING error to upgrade to the latest MediaWiki?
Upgrade to PHP 5.1.x. MediaWiki 1.7.0 and higher *require* it.
