I think offline editing is extrmely useful, probably not for Wikipedia, but for MediaWiki sites: it'd be useful to be able to create and maintain a set of pages in an offline 'project'. I've not tried the plugin to see if it can handle non-wikipedia sites.

Not sure if this helps: http://www.plog4u.org/index.php/Main_Page
The plog4u eclipse editor plugin isn't a direct "what you see is what you get" editor. It's focusing on editing Wikipedia articles offline (through downloading and uploading articles) and creating PDF documents from the articles.
The built-in "html preview browser" refreshs it's view if you save the edited text to the local file system and let "you see what you get".
