One thing to realize is that the side bar is broken into two file: MediaWiki:Sidebar and MediaWiki:Toolbox

Have you been able to find the Sidebar among the System Messages at MediaWiki:Sidebar ? There are some tricks to editing this and I have had trouble getting it to do what I want, so some discussion would be useful.

can you edit other media wiki pages such as the site notice and perform other admin actions?
