From what I have been able to find this should be the problem, but it looks as if it is set correctly. Does anyone have any experience or hints as to how I can get our page count to increase by 1 instead of 2?

Check that the "extra" pages which are being loaded on each request are not incrementing the count (ie. JavaScripts, CSS...)
