Thanks for this posting - I am facing the same Problem!
Initially I thougth that this is related to MySQL settings
that restrict pattern matches to >=4 as default setting
to keep search performance high.
Then I found out, that also for longer substrings this
does not work!
I would very apreciate if there is a solution for this!
