Happy new year to all.
There are features like mw-config and Composer but they are far from ideal. mw-config doesn't seem to handle extensions and Composer requires command-line access, which is not available to many of us. And it is not straightforward in its use. Lots of work to do.

Well, it *is* cache, it probably can be deleted. But I mentioned both directories that can contain anything that is not MediaWiki source code, just in case :)
Yes, of course. But I think my point is that you quoted a source and then deviated from the instructions in the source!
