Hello
I have been asked to build a web site in two languages and I would like to use mediawiki if possible.
What is the best route to have the navigation in the different languages? The options I can see are:
- Run two separate wikis (requires 2 databases and separate logins)
There are options for a "shared database" in DefautlSettings.php, but I have not tried them and they are marked beta.
If you want shared uploads, be sure to set the appropriate options.
- Run two wiki code bases, both pointing at the same database
with only differences in LocalSettings being the URL references for the navigation. Add suffix of :Lang1 and :Lang2 to the page names (will pointing two wikis at the same database cause problems?)
That should cause no problem, assuming that: 1. The upload directory is shared 2. You've disabled DB messages
- Something else?
Meta just has page titles in different languages. The downside of this (and #2) is that you can't use interlanguage links.
