Thanks, that's good to know, though it still would be convenient to be able to place it wherever I wanted to, page or sidebar, in any position I want it to be in... and maybe 1.17 takes care of that too.

The easy way to fix this would be to remove CustomNavBlocks when 1.17 is out (or switch to the prerelease version), as it allows an equivalent functionality extending MediaWiki:Sidebar syntax.
