I found a potential solution which I'm still evaluating. An "experimental" extension called CatBoxAtTop exists and does exactly what I want, places all specified categories, wherever they are in the page, at the top of the page in the upper right corner in a table. The categories still are visible at the bottom as usual, this is just an extra table of the categories shown at the top. Quite nice. Works with Monobook under MW 1.15.1 but have not tested with other skins.

Nevio's suggestion is good for having the category name & link appear where you want it, but it *won't* add the article to the category.
The "classic" skin puts the category names near the top right corner. Have the user try this & other skins. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Haim (Howard) Roman Computer Center, Jerusalem College of Technology Phone: 052-8-592-599 (6022 from within Machon Lev)

Try writting [[:Category:"the one you wants"|name of the wanted category]] and edit this link wherever you want on the page. I don´t know if that is what you mean, but... regards

I have a user who wants to have the name of the category that is specified in a page to appear at the top of the page. Currently it seems that no matter where the category is edited in the page it will always appear at the bottom. I have checked the magic words but they only allow hiding any categories specified.
Is there a way to have the category a page is a member of appear in a defined location on a page, like at the top?
