Umm.. so I'm using MediaWiki 1.5.0. There's an english installation under www.mpkb.net/en/ and a spanish installation under mpkb.net/es/ I log in at the english install, then move to spanish and log in there, and when I surf back to the english install, I am logged off from the english one. If at this point I surf to the spanish one, I am logged in in the spanish one but when I log in in the english on the same happens with the spanish. (This does not happen when the installations are in separate supdomains) I was googling some more after posting my email, and found a message about PHP Session. Yes! It was the PHP session what it was talking about.
So I added session_name("english"); at the english LocalSettings.php and session_name("spanish"); at the spanish one, following what's described in PHP's website, but the problem persists.
So 1) Is the PHP session declaration no longer necessary at MW1.5+? 2) What am I doing wrong?
Sorry about the PHP cache reference, I was totally off the mark.

A few months ago someone posted a note on how MediaWiki logs you off automatically when moving from one copy of MediaWiki to another (usually another language) but within the same subdomain, say from mpkb.net/en to mpkb.net/es (whereas wikipedia uses en.wikipedia.org/wiki and es.wikipedia.org/wiki ) And someone posted in response that a "php
cache"
differentiation was needed in LocalSettings.php for each copy.
If you've set MediaWiki to cache *data* (not a PHP opcode cache) in memcached, turck mmcache, or eaccelerator (again, data caching is separate from compiled code caching and must be explicitly turned on by you), then each wiki sharing that cache needs to have a separate database name ($wgDBname).
Not sure how this would relate to logging anyone off, but it could break any number of things if you tried to share items in the same database that way.
Perhaps this was an older version of MediaWiki which used the default PHP session cookie name? If so, see http://www.php.net/session for configuration information on how to change this.
