You did receive an error during installation, only you didn't act upon it. It's a common one, too. Re-read the output from MediaWiki.
You need to set the password for the user you set up for MW's use using the old mySQL authentication hashing.

Installation successful! Move the config/LocalSettings.php file into the parent directory, then follow this link to your wiki.
I moved LocalSettings.php up one level to the root of the mediawiki installation and deleted the config directory. I've tried typing in different urls, with no luck. One suggestion I found when googling was to use this url:
http://build.chq.ei/mediawiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
but that didn't work either. Can anyone suggest how to fix this?
