Hi,
There's a new episode of the MediaWiki podcast out today - and also I
forgot to announce on this list the previous episode when it came out.
So, the new episode is an interview of Olga Vasileva, a project manager in
the Readers Web Team at the Wikimedia Foundation:
http://betweenthebrackets.libsyn.com/episode-43-olga-vasileva
And the previous episode, from two weeks ago, is an interview of Derk-Jan
Hartman ("TheDJ"), who is the first-ever true volunteer developer on the
show:
http://betweenthebrackets.libsyn.com/episode-42-derk-jan-hartman
I think both episodes came out well - I hope people will check out both.

I am getting the following error when I try to log in to my new wiki (v
1.33.0):
"There seems to be a problem with your login session; this action has
been canceled as a precaution against session hijacking. Please resubmit
the form."
I have tried with multiple browsers and get the same error.
Any idea what is happening and how to fix it?

Hi,
I'm moving an old MediaWiki on to a new server, so I'm going through the
MediaWIki Upgrade procedure (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading).
I'm trying to do the alternate install so that our patch process keeps it
up to date but I'm not finding mediawiki when listing. I set up EPEL so I
can see the packages:
rpm -Uvh
https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-7.noarch.rpm
But then I look for the mediawiki packages like this, but nothing shows:
# yum list 'mediawiki*'
Loaded plugins: langpacks, product-id, rhnplugin, search-disabled-repos,
subscription-manager
This system is receiving updates from RHN Classic or Red Hat Satellite.
Error: No matching Packages to list
All I see is this:
# yum list '*mediawiki*'
Loaded plugins: langpacks, product-id, rhnplugin, search-disabled-repos,
subscription-manager
This system is receiving updates from RHN Classic or Red Hat Satellite.
Installed Packages
drupal7-mediawiki_api.noarch
1.0-0.14.rc1.el7 @epel
libmediawiki.x86_64 4.10.0-7.el7
@epel
libmediawiki-devel.x86_64 4.10.0-7.el7
@epel
python-simplemediawiki.noarch
1.2.0-0.3.b2.el7 @epel
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Eric
Apologies for cross-posting, but this should be relevant for volunteer
developers on this list as well.
Thank you for your participation,
Cindy

Subject: [Wikitech-l] The Community Insights survey (for volunteer devs)
To: Wikimedia developers <wikitech-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hey folks, I'm helping Rebecca Maung (rmaung(a)wikimedia.org) distribute
this request. Her words below:
The Wikimedia Foundation is asking for your feedback in the annual
Community Insights survey. We want to know how well we are supporting
your work on- and off-wiki, and how we can change or improve things in
the future. The opinions you share will directly affect the current
and future work of the Wikimedia Foundation.
If you are a volunteer developer, and have contributed code to any
pieces of MediaWiki, gadgets, or tools, please complete the survey. It
is available in various languages and will take between 15 and 25
minutes to complete.
Follow this link to the survey:

If you have seen a similar message elsewhere and have already taken
the Community Insights survey, please do not take it twice.
You can find more information about this survey on the project page
and see how your feedback helps the Wikimedia Foundation support
contributors like you. This survey is hosted by a third-party service
and governed by this privacy statement. Please visit our frequently
asked questions page to find more information about this survey.
If you need additional help, send an email to surveys(a)wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

I'd like to be able to report on the activity (contributions) of a group of
editors. I simply want to know how many edits ea. made on a month by month
basis. Is there any tool that would offer such functionality? It's labor
intensive to view ea. user's contributions and compile the data manually.
Thanks,
Greg

Hi!
I am new to MediaWiki and I try to install a test Wiki in this environment:
NetBSD 8.1
Apache 2.4.41
PHP 7.3.9
PostgreSQL 11.5
MediwWiki 1.33.0
I have performed the installation dialogue (the database is filled, so
it has done something) and added LocalSettings.php in the base directory.
When accessing the Wiki, I am back at the installer page and see
[adbcec82bb7466fe231a3192] 2019-09-09 08:48:02: Fatal exception of type
InvalidArgumentException
on that page. The Apache log shows
[Mon Sep 09 10:48:02.036078 2019] [php7:warn] [pid 21348:tid
134915271573504] [client 129.70.200.212:60859] PHP Warning:
session_name(): Cannot change session name when headers already sent in
/usr/pkg/share/httpd/htdocs/mediawiki-1.33.0/includes/Setup.php on line 803
I found some info on this error, but nothing in the context of
MediaWiki. What am I missing here?
Thanks,
Joern

Happy Friday - there is SQL application I'm trying to get data from using "Extension:External Data" and the SQL owner has told me that they can make a "Stored Procedure" available to me rather than grant me read access to the SQL database itself. Does anyone have any insight about how to use [1] to get data from a Stored Procedure on a SQL system? If so, please let me know on my Talk Topic [2] for [1]. Thanks!

Hello,
The committee received several reports for cases that were out of our
jurisdiction (usually due to mediawiki.org links followed from wikis that
are not part of Wikimedia). Those are not included in the following numbers:
In total, the committee dealt with and decided on 17 cases. Nine of the
cases had originated or had links to comments on Wikimedia Phabricator. The
most frequent action taken there by the committee for these was to delete
comments that violate the CoC. An email was also sent in all cases to the
person engaging in those rhetorics.
Among the rest, two of the cases had events happening on Wikimedia Gerrit,
four on the wikitech-l mailing list, and two had links to the userspace and
talk pages on mediawiki.org.
Given the low number of offline cases, we won't disclose any details about
those in order to protect confidentiality of those.
We saw at least 3 occasions of repeat violations from offenders. A harsher
decision was taken in at least one case among these.
The committee came to a conclusion of no-further action at least 5 times
while processing the aforementioned cases. However, we ended up at least
sending an email to notify both parties involved in the report in all cases.
Actions taken varied from deleting comments, asking for apologies, and user
bans. The committee also made sure to redirect reporters with genuine cases
of harassment to law enforcement.
Due to the limited number of cases, we decided to not go into more detail
where the cases were reported and what actions were taken and how often.
The current committee wishes the next committee a successful term!
On behalf of the CoC Committee,
Amir
I've noticed an error message in an RDF feed:
The ReplaceSet call limit ($1) has been reached.
What causes this? Is there a way to stop it? (BTW, I disabled ReplaceSet and nothing changed)
