EMWCon Spring 2019: Call for Presentations

MediaWiki admins, developers, and users: we are excited to bring you EMWCon Spring 2019, the Enterprise MediaWiki Conference [0], April 3-5 in Daly City, CA, just outside San Francisco. The conference will have two days of talks followed by a one day Create Camp. There will be many opportunities to interact with others using and developing MediaWiki. To make the best event possible, we need your help! We are looking for talks that answer any of the following questions: * Who is using MediaWiki? From small communities to large organizations, who are the users? * What is MediaWiki being used for? Are you maintaining documentation? Preserving family history? Collecting best practices? Mapping genes? Mapping natural disasters? * Where is MediaWiki being used? Do you have a multinational user base? Or are you in a large city? Or in a small village with limited network connectivity? * Why is MediaWiki being used? What are the features of MediaWiki that make it useful? * How is MediaWiki being used? Do you have tips and tricks for managing MediaWiki? For building extensions? Do you have favorite or innovative extensions that enhance your wiki? Do you have challenges or solutions for increasing contributions to your wikis? What would help you use MediaWiki more effectively? skin new header and footer

Short of writing a full skin, is there a recommended way to manipulate and/or replace the standard (Vector) MediaWiki header and footer? What I'm specifically looking to do is manipulate the content at the very top and bottom of the page (aka frame the content), by manipulating the content and position of specific elements found in the body of the output (#main-header and #footer). The main header must have links to other related properties and the footer must have custom disclaimers, copyright lines etc. I'd think a method to do so would be built-in somewhere. The addHTML() <https://doc.wikimedia.org/mediawiki-core/master/php/OutputPage_8php_source.…> method of OutputPage <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:OutputPage.php> just adds to what's already in mBodyText so that's not going to work. Similarly, prependHTML() and insertHeadItem() are not exactly suitable. Do I need to write my own method that uses getHTML(), (modify), and setHTML()? Examples? Rich, To rebuild the images, just run rebuildimages.php. Change directory so you are in the maintenance folder. What's the best way to improve performance, with regard to edit rate

I have a wiki with a high volume of edits that need to be made (via API), about 2-3 per second. The wiki can't keep up with them; there ends up being a backlog of edits that need to be made as, e.g., attempts are being made by 10 different bots to make 10 edits simultaneously (all to different pages) and it takes a long time for them to save so that the bots can move on to their next edits. What's the best way to boost performance in the ways needed to reduce the time needed to save edits, or to be able to save more edits per second by concurrently running bots? Thanks, -- Starstruck

help importing image into a new wiki

Hello.. I'm trying to move a wiki from host 1 to host 2 1. I've used the "dumpBackup.php --full" script to get the page content of the old wiki 2. I've used the "ImportDump.php" script to import the pages in the new wiki 3. I've made a .tar archive of the 'images' folder of the old wiki (thumbs and all) 4. I've copied the .tar archive of the images folder to the new wiki (thumbs and all) 5. I've unzipped the .tar archive in the new wiki in the images folder 6. I've run the rebuildall.php script on the new wiki all these steps have completed without error or issue. The new wiki does not see the images. What am I doing wrong? Thanks! /Rich
