UTF-8 and Error: 1064 ... syntax to use near '-8' at line 9

We are working on CentOS 7 x86_64 fully patched. We have SCL enabled so Apache 2.4.58, PHP 7.1.8 and MariaDB 5.5.56 are being used. We are trying to upgrade from MediaWiki 1.26 to 1.30. We are following https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading. We have been catching database errors so we are trying to run update.php per https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Topic:U26n1a1pgo0078tt (the update.php step is missing from Manual:Upgrading, so we did not run it first). The update is failing due to a syntax error. The "-8" below appears to be related to literal UTF-8. We are not sure how to proceed. We also noticed a message "Database.php: A database query error has occurred. Did you forget to run your application's database schema updater after upgrading?". A database schema updater is not discussed at Manual:Upgrading, so we are not sure what to do. Dump of recents changes

Hi, all I've a private wiki, which must be duplicated elsewhere. I do this with a DumpBackup operation, then a importDump (this is quite long...). Now, I'd like to update this duplicated wiki, on some weekly basis for example, but without using the full dump, only a dump of the pages which has been changed since a given date. I don't found any utility to get this kind of dump without tedious manual operations on Special Recents Changes page. Can you tell me if such an operation is possible, and how? Set MySQL connection to use SSL

In my MW site I'm using MW 1.30 and MySQL 5.7.x I need to set MW to use SSL for the database connection but am not finding the right settings in MW documentation ( I may be overlooking) In LocalSettings.php I have ## Database settings $wgDBtype = "mysql"; $wgDBserver = "<IP of DB server"; $wgDBname = "<DB_name>"; $wgDBuser = "<DB User Name>"; $wgDBpassword = "<DB password>"; $wgDBflags = DBO_SSL; This does force it to use SSL as when I make the MySQL database require SSL site dies and can't connect to database. Hello.. I'm getting an error when I run the SemanticMediawiki maintenance script "rebuildData.php" It consistently crashes on the same article ID and generates the following message: [72bdb30ca5d03c4cd6978192] [no req] MWException from line 3889 of /var/www/html/mywiki/includes/user/User.php: CAS update failed on user_touched for user ID '18' (read from replica); the version of the user to be saved is older than the current version. I investigated, and it turns out that User ID '18' is an account I created for my Parsoid service to use. The article is page_id '7108' which corresponds to a Flow talk page that I have edited using the VisualEditor. Back then (the PageID ~ 7000 era :-) ) .. was when I was installing Echo, Flow, VisualEditor and the Parsoid server.. and I had some messy issues getting them all up and running.. and I think this maintenance script error is a byproduct of that messy phase. Those extensions are all running well and playing nice together I think and so my hope is that if I can "repair" the database, this error with the maintenance script will do away. recommended way to email all users in a small private EMW

Hello, I run a small (< 500 users), private Sematic Mediawiki application (MW-1.28.2) in an enterprise environment with Echo and Flow (v1.1). All my users are authenticated via RemoteAuth and have automatically populated and verified email addresses.. and I have forced them to have the "receive email from the wiki" preference set to True. That said, I would like to send out an email to ALL my users informing them of outages, etc.. What is currently the best approach to doing so? Having searched and read on the topic, it is not clear to me what the most approved method might be. An extension? If so which one? Is there a method using Echo? If so, how? Thank you! -Rich
