Mediawiki extension IframePage with {{Special: ... }}

Hi, to embed an iframe into a wiki page the above extension uses {{Special:IframePage|wiwi|path="examples?R=data/bivariate/chi2_coefficients/example_chi2coeff.R"}} I wrote a similar extension which is called by <iframe k="wiwi" p="examples?R=data/bivariate/chi2_coefficients/example_chi2coeff.R" /> I would like to know what would be the advantage of using {{Special:...}} rather than <iframe ... />. Availability of MediaWiki 1.30 Release Candidate 0

I would like to announce the immediate availability of MediaWiki 1.30.0-rc.0, the first release candidate for 1.30.x. Links are at the end of this e-mail. This is not a final release and should not be used for production websites. As always, please do try out the release candidate in a test environment. It's how we find bugs that didn't surface in initial development. Barring any unforeseen issues, we hope to move forward to the release of MediaWiki 1.30 in the next few weeks. Per the version lifecycle, the current MediaWiki LTS version is 1.27.4. The 1.27 LTS branch will continue to be supported through June 2019. The 1.29 branch is not an LTS branch, but it will continue to be supported until July 2018. The current version in that branch is 1.29.2. MediaWiki 1.28.x reached End of Life this month. The final release in this series was 1.28.3. Permission and file ownership

I just recently migrated the wiki to a new environment. It was on a SLES 11 SP4 server running in a lampp and installed via Bitnami. Because of security issues, I built a new server, CentOS 7.x. This is a MediaWiki v1.25.2 environment. What should the owner and group be set to? Currently, they're set to root/daemon. That was what Bitnami had the owner and group set to in the initial installation. I copied the entire site to the new system retaining the permissions. Now users are getting errors uploading images. The errors that users are receiving are similar to: [a10a3fd5] /mediawiki/Special:Upload MWException from line 1856 of /var/www/html/mediawiki/includes/filerepo/file/LocalFile.php: Could not acquire lock for 'Andorra.png.' Research keeps pointing to permission issues, but the permissions are the same in both environments. I do have another environment that was set up on another server. It still uses lampp, but it does not use Bitnami. After the experience with Bitnami, I decided to eliminate it, and just install MediaWiki directly. Anyway, the ownership and permissions are a bit different on that installation. Owner and group are both root, and the permission on the images directory are 777. I personally think that wide open permission on the images directory is a bad idea and will not set those same permissions on the new installation. But, I've read a number of times in different forums that was what resolved this for others having the same errors. I hesitate just changing the owner and group on the wiki to root/root and open up the images directory to the world. So, what are the best permission settings? What should the owner and group be, and what permissions does the images directory have to be? Thanks Daryl

MediaWiki Stakeholders (MWStake) is excited to officially announce that registration for Enterprise MediaWiki Conference (EMWCon) 2018 is open at [ https://www.eventbrite.com/e/emwcon-spring-2018-tickets-40064329488 | https://www.eventbrite.com/e/emwcon-spring-2018-tickets-40064329488 ] .. MWStake is organizing EMWCon for March 21-23 of 2018 in Houston, Texas. EMWCon is an annual event that began in 2015, and this is the first time it is being held outside the East Coast, in "Space City," Houston, Texas. The third day will be a half day create camp followed by a tour of Space Center Houston, the official tourist facility for NASA Johnson Space Center. We are still looking for presenters, but available slots for talks are filling up! We anticipate announcing a full working schedule of the event by the end of 2017. Database errors after crash

Dear List Users, I have mediawiki 1.29-Release running on FreeBSD-11.1-Release and have had a crash of my MySQL database. At first, I couldn't start it at all. But after deleting ib_logfile* and ibdata*, it came back alive. In the sense that I can start the server and use many of the databases. But not the one holding my mediawiki installation. The error log says "[Warning] InnoDB: InnoDB: Cannot open table mediawiki_something_dk/user from the internal data dictionary of InnoDB though the .frm file for the table exists.." The debug log is quite full but has the message "Error: 1146 Table 'mediawiki_something_dk.l10n_cache' doesn't exist (localhost)" Does anyone know how to solve this? custom Permissions Error (with action)

Hi, ... with MW-1.28.2 I am trying to create a custom page for users who receive the "Permission Error with action" system message. Using the Special page "Special:AllMessages" I have learned that the display TITLE for a permission error is defined by the content at "MediaWiki:Permissionserrors", and I have learned that the TEXT that a user sees upon a permission error with actions is defined by the content at "MediaWiki:Permissionserrorstext-withaction". The default text is of "MediaWiki:Permissionserrorstext-withaction" is: "You do not have permission to $2, for the following {{PLURAL:$1|reason|reasons}}:" When I create the custom page "MediaWiki:Permissionserrorstext-withaction" with the exact same content as the default, the $1, and $2 do not get parsed and the text displays the $1 and $2 as literals. How can I get the $1 and $2 to process with the custom action(s)? -Rich

Cannot access the database

Hello, I just moved an existing environment from a SLES 11 SP4 xampp/Bitnami installation to a CentOS 7.4, Apache, MySQL, PHP environment. There were security issues with the original installation, so I had to move to something that I could upgrade components when as vulnerabilities are discovered. According to the documentation, I should be able to export/import the database and then copy over the MediaWiki directory, and all should me good. Well, there are a couple of minor gotcha's in the doc's, but for the most part, it's pretty straight forward. I had a few minor issues with the php, but once I got that figured out, I now get a page that tells me that the site is experiencing technical difficulties (Cannot access the database). I've verified that the database name, user name and password are correct. >From the command line, I can access the database using the database user and I can see the tables. I'm not a DBA or a developer, so I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting. Other than verifying that the credentials are correct. The original installation was PHP v5.6.12 and the new installation is PHP v5.6.32. Other than that, I believe everything else is the same. MediaWiki is V1.25. Any suggestions on where to start looking? Thanks Daryl

Extension Duplicator help

I have an urgent need/desire with MW-1.28.2 to have a bug-fix/feature made in the Extension:Duplicator [master-cf59a69] by Rob Church and Vitaliy Filippov. The problem is that the current version doesn’t create wiki links for the source (old) and destination (new) articles. [0] I think this could be a simple fix that I am willing to make on my own version (and provide in the extension talk page as a solution) if someone could point me in the right direction on some super basic wiki programing. Specifically… I believe I have chased the issue into the file “Duplicator.page.php” line 125 …. Which reads: $this->msg( 'duplicator-success-revisions' )->numParams( $num )->text() I’m really novice in the wiki programming, but I believe the issue could be as simple as the “->text()” function at the end of that line? Would it be easy to fix by simply updating that to the function that produces wikitext? Can anyone help me debug my first 3rd party extension? (Rob? ☺ .. Vitaliy? ☺ ) - Rich
