Hello Folks,
I have just updated our wiki from LTS version 1.23.14 to 1.23.15 and hit
a problem. Although I seem to have found the cause, I thought I would
write this in case anyone is interested.
I downloaded :
https://releases.wikimedia.org/mediawiki/1.23/mediawiki-1.23.15.tar.gz
Unpacked, copied settings, images etc. , ran the maintenance/update.php
script, all seemed well.
But accessing the wiki gave me an error :
"Parse error: syntax error, unexpected 'class' (T_CLASS), expecting
identifier (T_STRING) or variable (T_VARIABLE) or '{' or '$' in
/homepages/44/d450433756/htdocs/mediawiki-1.23.15/vendor/param-processor/param-processor/DefaultConfig.php
on line 24"
Going back to (on disk) .14 worked (thank goodness).
Looking more closely, I could see that "vendor" is not a folder in the
MW source but seems to come from PHP "Composer.phar". I use "Composer"
because it is the recommended way to update the SubPageList extension
per :
https://github.com/JeroenDeDauw/SubPageList/blob/master/doc/INSTALL.md
So I run :
php5.5 composer.phar self-update
php5.5 composer.phar update
and this pulls in the SubPageList extension and creates the "vendor"
folder.
To get the wiki working again, I reinstalled but did NOT use Composer to
get the SubPageList extension (or anything).
Maybe there is a problem with Composer (at least the updated version)
and MW 1.23.15? I am very happy that the wiki is running again and using
.15.
Cheers,

Hello,
Until MediaWiki 1.27, any message not translated in Slovak or in Czech
is printed in English.
For MediaWiki 1.28, we plan to offer a fallback between Slovak and
Czech languages, as these languages are easier to understand to
contributors than English. The fallback is currently committed on our
master branch.
Than means any message not translated in Slovak on a MediaWiki
installation in Slovak will be printed in Czech and inversely.
This change has been prepared by Federico Leva.

I maintain that is too long, and leads to users wondering why the template
changes they made are not affecting other pages. If the queue is so large
it causes overlaps, one can always add the -maxtime option.

Greetings,
I'd like to customize the pre-defined content of a file page. Specifically,
one of my users has asked if it could have an "Example" section that can be
used to list a number of cut&paste-ready lines, i.e.
[[Media:MyFile.ext|MyDescription]]
I thought perhaps this was part of one of the system messages within the
MediaWiki namespace but I'm struggling to find which one.
Alternatively I could try and use the Boilerplate extension perhaps?
Thoughts?
Kind regards, Manu

Subject: [Wikitech-l] Security update for CentralAuth
To: Wikimedia developers <wikitech-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
A bug[1] was identified in CentralAuth that would allow a user to log in to
a wiki with a reserved or otherwise "unusable" account if that account was
not reserved on another wiki in the CentralAuth cluster.
Patches for supported branches are:
* master (1.28 alpha): https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/304856
* REL1_27: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/304857
* REL1_26: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/304858
* REL1_23: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/304861
If you are using an earlier version, you should upgrade your MediaWiki
installation.

Dear Teammates,
Using MW 1.26.2 on Windows 2008, I am having the below problem from the GraphViz Talk page
which also has a solution pertaining to wshellexec (see below). So I don't understand the solution which was: "Problem apparently solved. It was the same as one of the messages above, and it was solved the same - copying wshellexec from 1.22.15 over the current version".
If you understand it, please let me know. I couldn't find a file named wshellexec in MediaWiki.

Graph is created then deleted[edit<https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Extension_talk:GraphViz&action=…>]
Hello.
I'm using mediawiki in a windows 7 environment, with an Apache server at localhost.
GraphViz is fully configured and running, but the image graph is created and then deleted, showing nothing on screen. I've reproduced the exact command shown on log ("<program files>\Graphviz2.38\bin\dot.exe" -T "png" -o "<wiki directory>\images\graphviz\images\Example_digraph_G_dot.png" "<wiki directory>\images\graphviz\Example_digraph_G.src") and in fact does create the image, but the folder is empty after refreshing the page (even if I manually put a copy of the intended image there). Where can be the error? Why the data is gone?
tx,
L
