Hi,
My wiki is located at:
http://www.researchpipeline.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
I just upgraded to mediawiki 1.15.0 from the previous version. When I try to
create a new page or click on "recent changes" I get the following error:
Database error
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the
software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "IndexPager::reallyDoQuery (LogPager)". MySQL returned
error "1146: Table 'lyndi1_wikidb.mw_tag_summary' doesn't exist
(localhost)".
I'm a relative newbie. What does this mean?
Thanks,
Lyndie

Hi,
can I block the creation of new user accounts based on a user name
pattern (preferably REGPEXP or something similar) somehow?
This is a targeted anti-spam measure.
Thanks,

Hi, it seems like my random button is not working very well. It keeps on
repeating certain pages instead of moving on. How can I can better
randomness?

Beautiful! Thanks!
I had been to that page, but somehow overlooked the obvious admonition
that one cannot do what I wanted to do.
I did find that the named actual parameter had to be last for some
reason. It was being interpreted as SQL otherwise. So this is what
ended up working:

> sql2wiki | SELECT * FROM mw_user WHERE user_id =
> {{{1}}} | database=EcoReality }}
Thanks again for your help, Platonides!

I have the same problem since I upgraded to MW 1.14.
Moreover I noticed that if I resize the IE6 window reducing the width, I can
see the login form again! It seems related to some div tag...
(This happens for your wiki too)

I'm having trouble using the SQL2wiki extension in a template.
Something seems to be goofy about the use of a parameter. The
parameter is not getting the value it is supposed to get, and the
MySQL error messages seem to indicate that one of the curly braces is
getting stripped off:
Here is the template with as simple a query as I could muster; user_id
2 is a valid record:
> <noinclude>{{project timelog1|2}}</noinclude>
> <includeonly><sql2wiki database="EcoReality">SELECT * FROM
> mw_user WHERE user_id = {{{1}}}</sql2wiki></includeonly>
and here is what is produced, error messages in front of an empty table:
> Warning: mysql_query() [<a href='http://www.mysql.com/doc'>http://www.mysql.com/doc
> </a>]: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that

I don't understand why this is happening, because it was my impression
that the template parameter substitution happens before the extension
is invoked. Other templates with parameters on this site are working
fine, although no other one contains extension tags with a positional
parameter between them. I would have contacted the extension author
(or started going through the code) fist except for this impression.
Any clues?
What is the best way to integrate a mailing list with MediaWiki? The aim
here is to run a mailing list for a website running MediaWiki where the
website subscribers can opt in and out either during registration or
afterwards, or register with the mailing list without having an account on
the site.
Has anyone implemented this? Are there plugins that will help with this
setup?
Thanks,
Waseem
Hi, I did a new skin and I found out that IE displays the default setting
before displaying the layout based on the IEFixes for the skin. This is
logical but it makes the display rather awkward for a brief moment. Is it
possible to have a conditional statement such that the corresponding default
portion of the main.css is not displayed when IE fixes are available?
For reference, see JBDirectory.com <http://jbdirectory.com/>, using IE.

Welcome to mediawiki-l. This mailing list exists for discussion and questions
about the MediaWiki software[0]. Important MediaWiki-related announcements
(such as new versions) are also posted to this list.
Other resources.
If you only wish to receive announcements, you should subscribe to
mediawiki-announce[1] instead.
MediaWiki development discussion, and all Wikimedia technical questions, should
be directed to the wikitech-l[2] mailing list.
Several other MediaWiki-related lists exist:
- mediawiki-api[5] for API discussions,
- mediawiki-enterprise[6] for discussion of MediaWiki in the enterprise,
- mediawiki-cvs[7] for notification of commits to the Subversion repository,
- mediawiki-i18n[8] for discussion of MediaWiki internationalisation support,
- wikibugs-l[9] for notification of changes to the bug tracker.

This list is also gatewayed to the Gmane NNTP server[4], which you can use to
read and post to the list.
Posting to the list.
Before posting to this list, please read the MediaWiki FAQ[10]. Many common
questions are answered here. You may also search the list archives to see if
your question has been asked before.
Please try to ask your question in a way that enables people to answer you.
Provide all relevant details, explain your problem clearly, etc. You may
wish to read [13], which explains how to ask questions well.
To post to the list, send mail to <mediawiki-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>. This is a
public list, so you should not include confidential information in mails you
send.
When replying to an existing thread, use the "Reply" or "Followup" feature of
your mail client, so that clients that understand threading can sort your
message properly. When quoting other messages, please use the "inline" quoting
style[11], for clarity.
When creating a new thread, do not reply to an existing message and change the
subject. This will confuse peoples' mail readers, and will result in fewer
people reading your mail. Instead, compose a new message for your post.
Messages posted to the list have the "Reply-To" header set to the mailing list,
which means that by default, replies will go to the entire list. If you are
posting a reply which is only interesting to the original poster, and not the
list in general, you should change the reply to only go to that person. This
avoids cluttering the list with irrelevant traffic.
