"Wiki" is a Hawaiian word that means "fast."
Ward Cunningham, the inventor of the wiki concept (http://www.c2.com)
originally called his Perl script "wiki wiki web," meaning (exact
literal translation from Hawaiian... NOT) "really, really fast way of
getting collaborative web content up."
Given the difficulty of trademarking words in common use, I would be
very surprised if anyone could do anything about any use you choose to
make of "wiki."
:::: Because the -- all which is on the table begins to address the
big cost drivers. For example, how benefits are calculated, for
example, is on the table. Whether or not benefits rise based upon wage
increases or price increases. There's a series of parts of the formula
that are being considered. And when you couple that, those different
cost drivers, affecting those -- changing those with personal
accounts, the idea is to get what has been promised more likely to be
-- or closer delivered to that has been promised. Does that make any
sense to you? -- George W. Bush ::::

Hi MediaWiki-ers,
One of our developers accidentally kicked off a script to auto-populate a wiki with test data on one of our production wikis. We don't actually want to keep any of his edits. Is there an easier way to remove all of his edits than going to each page the script touched and deleting or reverting it? This developer was using his own user-name and has never made an edit to the wiki that we want to keep (the script edited under his username).
I thought there may be a spam removal extension that would do something similar to what I need, but I was unable to find one.
Thanks!

Starting from this discussion
http://www.mwusers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=33953 I posted a new
extension into mediawiki extension section.
It's a simple bridge to load markitUp editor and replace the default
toolbar.
The default toolbar is simple hided with a Jquery hide() function and no
changes are made to the mediawiki core.
The Jquery library is bundled with markitup package and is 1.2.3 version.
I think that is an easy customizable and alternative editor.
The initial releases and the SVN repository is here
http://code.google.com/p/markitup-mw/. If someone want to contribute to this
extension feel free to email me and request a password for SVN account.
Best wishes

This is odd. Pages listed in Categories are not sorting alphabetically.
It is very very random looking.
Look at this Category for example:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Category:Documentation/BASIC_Guide
Some pages are in the right place, but not many.. most are scattered at
random through the various letter headings... Under M I see pages
starting with D, J, Z, F and so on.. this isn't right.
Anyone have any ideas what's up here?
C.

Before posting to this list, please read the MediaWiki FAQ[10]. Many common

When replying to an existing thread, use the "Reply" or "Followup" feature of
your mail client, so that clients that understand threading can sort your

style[11], for clarity.
When creating a new thread, do not reply to an existing message and change the
subject. This will confuse peoples' mail readers, and will result in fewer
people reading your mail. Instead, compose a new message for your post.
Messages posted to the list have the "Reply-To" header set to the mailing list,
which means that by default, replies will go to the entire list. If you are
posting a reply which is only interesting to the original poster, and not the
list in general, you should change the reply to only go to that person. This
avoids cluttering the list with irrelevant traffic.

Hello !
Here is what I would like to do :
1. When a user logs in, I would like to put him in a Namespace called FOO by
default instead of "MAIN". Is that possible ?
2. When a logged in user wants to create a new article, I would like to
place that article in a Namespace of my choice. Is that possible ?
Any help/pointers would be appreciated to this newbie.
Regards,
elcpub
Dear list,
Hi, I just moved a Mediawiki from one Debian server to another. In the
database that I imported from the previous server the user's password
hashes looked like this:
:B:728d4f83:c0890522e6b9dfc8e3c55a45e5c05156
but now they look like this:
a4c520344c6ce5b3e2dfea3d43301a99.
And no authentication works.
I have found out that this has got to do with salting the hash, but I
cannot seem to make Mediawiki use the salted kind of hashes, so my users
are having to change their passwords, which is a nuisance.
Thanks,
Mordur Ingolfsson
I recently restored my db from a dump to a new server. When I tried to
enable math after the whole ordeal I get this error on any page with <math>
tags in it:
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the
software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "MathRenderer::_recall". MySQL returned error "1267:
Illegal mix of collations (latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) and
(utf8_general_ci,COERCIBLE) for operation '=' (localhost)".
I also get that error if I create a new page with <math> tags.
How can I fix this?
Thanks
Dear All,
Please, tell me, if other lists would be more appropriate for the following
question. Thanks.
We do non-profit research at a university and our goal is to learn more
about how Wikipedia can produce high quality. So far we have used mainly the
dump files from the Wikimedia download site.
Does anyone happen to know whether the hierarchy of Wikipedia users is
public? And maybe the same for the employees of the Wikimedia Foundation?
Thank you very much in advance.
