This one should be easy but it has me going slightly mad on a Friday
afternoon...
What little snippet of PHP will return a properly formated URL so that
I can have an <a href="<?php what goes here ?> "> tag that links back
to the current page?
I'm skinning MW to fit with a site that has a breadcrumb trail on
other pages and I want to keep that consistent when users are in the
wiki part.

Bonjour,
Cordialement

Found a solution myself!
Maybe not the best....
I changed the php lines as the Mediawiki:sidebar page suggest in "Wikitext in side bar".
Place inside the sidebar page:
<div class="portlet">
<h5></h5>
</div>
And the toolbox is disappeared!

Thank you for your advise, Chris!
Just look the Wiki page as one (I was too much thinking in frames, actually).
Some searching to the right class of the elements (is there an explaining list?) and it worked.
I even managed to get the search bar properly. I understand now the confusion: it's just a question of positioning: placing it on the part of the page you want with the absolute attribute.
But one thing I can't get wright: the toolbox (the element below the search).
If you make portlet invisible, the bar above the pages disappear, even the tabs.
I tried to change -in monobook.php- the div of class="portlet" in "ownportlet", and made that hidden (line 177 and even, when that did not work, line 179).
I even removed that whole part 177-229, but that had no effect at all. That's the toolbox part, if I look at the contence.
How is that possible?

I tried running a search on my Trunk MediaWiki install, like this: http://oks.verymad.net/~onekopaka/mwtrunk/index.php/Special:Search?search=M…
and I get this:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method
SearchEngineDummy::replacePrefixes() in /Users/onekopaka/Sites/mwtrunk/
includes/SpecialSearch.php on line 170
Everything else works great.

Most important is removing the sidebar because the wiki page fits in the right frame of my site and has its own sidebar.
I'm familiar with HTML, CSS and Javascript, but are not familiar with php.
In my humble opnion it should be not to hard just removing the part of the side bar.
But if I understand you right you say the only way is to do that is in the monobook.php...
or is even that to simple?
And if tha's the case, i would like to try to make the wiki sidebar look like my own sidebar.
But how do I get rid of the tools-part of the sidebar, which isn't shown in Wikimedia:sidebar.

I'm using Vesion 1.12 so Autopromote shoul work.
But I'm not able to make Autopromote working.
If (as an example) I write:
$wgAutopromote = array(
'Editor' => APCOND_EMAILCONFIRMED
);
every user (after login ?) should be an Editor (Editor exists) ... but
it dosen't work
all others conditions APCOND_EDITCOUNT, APCOND_AGE, APCOND_INGROUPS not wor
What I'm doing wrong ?
I have a private wiki of which the majority of users are viewers only
(not logged in, no editing rights).
When they follow a link to a wanted page or category I'd like to show
them a note saying the name of the page and giving a brief message
about why it hasn't been built yet.
Instead all they see is Permission Error and some fairly terse text
about why they can't see anything.
Is there a way to change this behavior?

Only the search fascility at the sidebar is of use to me.
Therefore I would like to remove it completely and add the searchform at the bottem of the main page.
I did a search on the archives, tried to use the Wikimedia:sidebar and tried by triall and error in monobook.php, but with no luck.
A complete new skin like those of PaulGuWiki is too much change: I like the style of monobook.
I installed DynamicSkin but can't find out how it works.
The modification I want sounds so easy ... can anyone help?
