With the next upcoming version, MediaWiki 1.14alpha, r42something (SVN
HEAD - "unstable") you can link this way, too:

Hello!
I have set up a wiki on my Solaris 10 and wanted to use images on the
frontpage as easy, fast and nice links.
In other words, I embedded the graphics on my frontpage and wanted to
put a redirect on those "image:" pages;
Yet the redirect does not seem to work, the "image:" - page looks like a
normal redirect page, yet it just and easy does not do the redirect.
I am using MediaWiki 1.13.2, PHP 5.2.6 and Mysql 5.1.25
- is there any workaround or patch, since I am absolutely sure that this
feature existed in early 2008?
Has someone experienced that problem?
Thanks for this Mail-List ;)

Ofortuna is a mediawiki extension that allows you to display a random
page from a specified category.
It works like the Special:Random feature of mediawiki, but whereas in
Special:Random you type Special:Random/Wikipedia to see a random page
from a namespace, in ofortuna you type Special:ofortuna/Countries to see
a random page from a category.
It is available under a free licence. It has no warranty. The current
version is preliminary, so expect some time after you can see all of its
beauty.
You may find it at http://nsk.karastathis.org/index.php/Ofortuna

Wouldn't it be nicer if cl_to in the categorylinks database table
refered to cat_id rather than include the explicit category name?

Hi,
I have a very old private wiki which uses Mediawiki 1.4.0. I would like to
migrate this wiki to another private server using mediawiki 1.12.0
(specifically 1:1.12.0-2~bpo40+1 from Debian etch-backports).
I imagine this migration may be quite painful. Does anyone have any advice
on how to go about it?
Thanks
Ben

This isn't a direct solution, but I was able to get it working by
disabling fileinfo (fileinfo.so) in php5-extensions.
