One more i have added the user groups in DB manually, but the user groups are

Hey
What is the easiest way to delete all articles.
I want to set up a small wikifarm an want to use an existing wiki with
pictures for a commons like wiki. Therefore i have to delete all
articles within that existing wiki.
Does there exist allready a script (php or sql) ?
Thx. HeinzJ
Hi everybody,
I need a bit of advice. I'm going to give a demo about
mediawiki to a few people used to deal with WYSIWYG
type of editors. They are all smart enough to pick up
wikitext no problem, but I'd like to be able to mention
a few reasons about why they will have to deal with
wikitext directly and not its formatted representation.
A few people who have gone through the same transition
have told me that there is a bit of an initial code-phobia
obstacle to overcome and I'd like to motivate the newcomers
to go through that first obstacle to enjoy what's on the other
side.
Any suggestion?
Thank you!
Manu
Hello everyone,
After scouring the mediawiki.org site, I can't seem to find any way to
add/manage dublin core metadata for my pages. I found something about
RDF, but it seems both still in development, and not particularly
friendly to implement/use.
Surely *someone* had come up with a solution for this?
Any assistance appreciated.
Thanks

Hello all,
I've just come across disposableWebPage, an interesting website service
powered by MediaWiki:
http://disposablewebpage.com
Seems like they provide page-access restrictions via an automatically
generated key.
I haven't been able to figure out how they're doing it, and there's no
contact info either.
Nevertheless, it might be of interest to some people around here.

I've sort of given up on writing a new semantic MediaWiki extension
myself, and instead would like to hire someone to do this. More info
below. Any takers?
This is guru.com project 333404, but since guru.com requires (free)
registration, I'm reproducting the project details below:
== BEGIN PASTE ==
Subject: MediaWiki extension for semantics + to add data to other pages
I'd like an extension to MediaWiki that lets me do two things:
% Add text to another page. For example, if I'm editing a page
"Lucy" and say:
Lucy has a younger brother Linus, who [[Linus!!carries a
"security blanket"]].
the text 'carries a "security blanket"' will be added to a
special section of the Linus page. If the Linus page doesn't
exist, it will be created.
On the Lucy page, it will read:
Lucy has a younger brother Linus, who carries a "security
blanket".
% Add semantic information to page similar to what
http://ontoworld.org/wiki/Main_Page does. For example, if I edit
the Charlie Brown page to say:
Charlie Brown has a sister, [[sister::Sally]].
the RDF/semantic triple relation "Charlie Brown","sister","Sally"
will be stored in a MySQL table and displayed at the bottom of
both the Charlie Brown and Sally pages.
On the Charlie Brown page, this will read:
Charlie Brown has a sister, [[Sally]].
In other words, "Sally" will just be a regular link to the Sally
page.
% These features should be combinable and nestable. If I edit
the Charlie Brown page to say:
Charlie Brown has a sister, [[sister::Sally]], who [[Sally!!has a
crush on [[loves::Linus]], who [[Linus!!carries a "security
blanket"]]]]
this would:
% Create the Sally and Linus pages, if they don't already exist
% Add the phrase 'carries a "security blanket"' to a special
part of the Linus page.
% Add the phrase 'has a crush on [[Linus]], who carries a
"security blanket"' to a special part of the Sally page.
% Create/store the semantic triple "Sally","loves","Linus", and
display it at the bottom of both the Sally and Linus pages.
% Create/store the semantic triple "Charlie
Brown","sister","Sally" and store it on both the Charlie Brown
and Sally pages.
% On the Charlie Brown page, the text would read:
Charlie Brown has a sister, [[Sally]], who has a crush on
[[Linus]], who carries a "security blanket"
Notes:
% This is just an overview. More details on request.
% I've written code to do some of the above. You're not
obligated to use it, but it might help.
% The extension should use only open source technology, and
comply to MediaWiki's extension standard to the extent possible:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_extensions
Please let me know how much this would cost, thank you.

Thank you for your response. I found some information about the error
from the Installation section of Help:ParserFunctions document and solved
the problem.

Re: [Mediawiki-l] MediaWiki Extension Inclusion Question [was:Not exactly
a Mediawiki question]
What does your LocalSettings.php file say on 130? You could try
include_once instead of require_once, I seem to remember that not quite
causing a fatal error. On your title=Special:Version page what version
does it say you are running?

Hello,
I was installing some extensions and got puzzled by this problem. Can
someone help to see why do I get the error message?!!!
I have relaxed the permissions even to the world (rwxrwxrwx) for
/var/www/neowiki, /var/www/neowiki/extensions,
/var/www/neowiki/extensions/ParserFunctions, and the three phps
(Expr.php,
ParserFunctions.i18n.php, ParserFunctions.php) under
/var/www/neowiki/extensions/ParserFunctions directory.
I got the following error messages:
Warning:
require_once(/var/www/neowiki/extensions/ParserFunctions/ParserFunctions
.php)
[function.require-once]:
failed to open stream: Permission denied in
/var/www/neowiki/LocalSettings.php on line 130
Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required
'/var/www/neowiki/extensions/ParserFunctions/ParserFunctions.php'
(include_path='/var/www/neowiki:/var/www/neowiki/includes:/var/www/neowi
ki/languages:.:/usr/local/lib/php')
in
/var/www/neowiki/LocalSettings.php on line 130
I don't see any reason that
'/var/www/neowiki/extensions/ParserFunctions/ParserFunctions.php' can
not
be accessed. I don't know where the include_path got set either!!!
Thank
you for your help.

Please don't take this as a direct hit but ..
I have seen similar in many postings and have to say that it is just not
true. There is no reason that a WYSIWYG editor would not give the same
control. The fact that there is not a good answer now is one thing ..
but thinking that all users *should be* programmers is .. well not right
(to my way of thinking).
wikiText does give you a little *simpler* method over straight html but
a good editor would be much preferable even to a coder like me. It is
great to SEE what it is you are doing. Some coders use syntax checking,
code complete etc. Just more tools.
thanks

Hi Emanuele,
When I am teaching people HTML or wikitext, I like to let people know up
front that it will require a little more brain-power than they are used
to with Word and similar, but that they will have a ton more control
over the final outcome if they stick to the slightly more technical
method.

Refering to another page in a wiki article
I have made an extension for writing scientific papers, with support for
references in bibtex format via extra
tags, one tag for refering to an external reference file (currently
refering to a URL), a tag for putting references
in the text, and one for placing the reference section. This is set up
as a tool for cooperation with my colleagues.
There are several resons that I don't want to use the Cite extension
package, the most important being that it
interleaves the comments in the text which make it hard to reuse the
biblography later, and because I and most I
work with use external tools using the bibtex or endnote format for
handling references, which don't work with
inlined/interleaved comments.
Now I import the biblography via a URL, like <nowiki><bibtex
src="http://www.somesite.com/biblo.bib"/></nowiki>.
This works, but I would really like to get the biblography from another
wiki page on the same server. I can use the
URL-fetch method for that as well, but it would be a better idea to get
it from within Mediawiki. I have not found any
wikipedia extensions that does that. How would you do that.
