Are there any examples of it somewhere?
Any documentation?
Thanks,
Peleg.

I downloaded and installed Mediawiki 1.5.5 a few days ago, and have been
having a look. I have pretty good experience in PHP, but it's my first look
at Mediawiki.
One of the biggest things I have noticed is:
a) echo, doesn't
b) if I try and create my own "test_wiki.php" file calling wiki
functions/methods, I get I think errors but all that is displayed on the
screen is a complete blank
I suppose these things are basically the same thing. Is "echo" disabled?
Is there some other global setting I haven't seen which is stopping output
to the screen? Is there some magic constant that I have to set to get debug
output (I have found $wgDebugLogFile, $wgDebugRedirects, $wgDebugRawPage,
$wgDebugComments, $wgReadOnly, $wgLogQueries, $wgDebugDumpSql but they don't
seem to help much).
Thanks for any help.

Hi MediaWiki List,
Firstly, very excited to find a brains trust that may be able to
assist solving a mind boggling problem.
We are attempting to set up MediaWiki on IIS @ Quadra Hosting.
All goes well until on the "Checking environment..." page of the
"MediaWiki 1.6.5 Installation" under the "Generating configuration
file..." section the error:
>Generating configuration file...
># Database type: mysql
>
>Warning: Unexpected character in input: '\' (ASCII=92) state=2 in E:
\hshome\hotbanan\sos.hotbanana.org\wiki\includes\Utf8Case.php on line
1302
>
>Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in E:\hshome\hotbanan
\sos.hotbanana.org\wiki\includes\Utf8Case.php on line 1302
I have had a post here:
Help_Forum#syntax_error_during_install_-_Utf8Case.php_on_line_1302
for several weeks now but no ideas yet.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
Thanks in advance,
Nathan
Hi,
I already wrote about this issue here: http://mail.wikipedia.org/
pipermail/wikitech-l/2006-January/033518.html
The problem - messages on default skin include project name, and the
inclusion costs milliseconds. I didn't do proper profiling now, but
it may consume up to 20% of time required to push out a simple page.
The easy immediate cure for any site is to check that there're no
transformations happening in these messages:
mediawiki:aboutpage
mediawiki:privacypage
mediawiki:disclaimerpage
mediawiki:aboutsite
mediawiki:pagetitle
As for mediawiki development, the urls may point to Project: (what
would be rewritten into proper project namespace afterwards), or have
$wgSitename used in Message files...
Message transformations matter in many other cases, but those at
least are not triggered on every page load.
I guess this doesn't matter that much with Tim's new Skin rendering
engine, but I can't tell now, :)
Cheers,
Domas

btw ... i'm not trying to get mysql support here ... just trying to
figure out whether the latin1_bin is normal before getting mysql
support elsewhere.
Hello, masters of mediawiki !
I would like to add swf ( or flash )file on my mediawiki. I saw some comments and
knew some one already succeeded to do this. But I tried to do this whole day, I couldnt.
Please tell me how to upload swf file ?
At the privious post below, it is said small size of swf can be uploaded.
My swf is so small. But I can not....
--- original post ---
I am not able to upload large windows media video (wmv) files to a MediaWiki
1.5.5 running on php 4.3.10-16 and MySQL 4.0.24_Debian-10sarge1-log.
In testing, I am able to upload small wmv files (<3meg).
When I try with large ones, I either (a) the page waits for a few minutes
(while status bar in IE slowly grows) and then appears to refresh with no
error (and no file uploaded) or (b) IE shows "this page cannot be displayed'
The uploads directory is writable.
I can upload other images, mp3 files (tested successfully 10 meg), swf or
fla flash files (tested >7megs) and these appear perfectly.
I've tried increasing the php.ini settings: memory_limit = 16M;
upload_max_filesize = 12M; post_max_size = 12M; I have also increased the
time allowed for scripts to run and load.
I added to LocalSettings.php:
$wgFileExtensions = array('gif', .. The others already there. 'wmv');
$wgVerifyMimeType = false;
When I look at a small wmv (<3meg) file I successfully uploaded, the mime
type is text/plain (which seems odd, mp3 files are properly identified)
Any ideas? Could it be the codec I used to encode the wmv file? (I used
camtasia - this is for video based training in our internal company wiki).
Thanks!
Hello
Is there a possibility to export only a subset of a Mediawiki
to integrate i.e. add it into another, already existing, Mediawiki?
I tried maintenance/dumpBackup.php and the SpecialPages export but
both
a) did not dump pics and other media content like PDF pages
b) put <id> tags into the XML output. I guess I could replace
those automatically for User-Ids as those are few here or even
neglible and replace them with 0 for the page ids as they seem
to get a new id during import then.
c) put a special header at the top of the XML file which though can
be deleted without giving erros on the import.
Do you have suggestions how to do this the right way?
thanks,
-christian-
Fair points. Be sure to add a feature request to the bug database:

Subject: Re: [Mediawiki-l] Multilingual Content (was: (Media)Wiki use bySoCprojects)
Multi-lingual wiki is a right pain in the ****. Setting up a single
language wiki is ease itself (well done folks). Setting up a multi-lingual
wiki is a nightmare (maybe if Jimbo and others worked in a multiligual
enviroment like Belgium life would be different).
For example:
* for every language you have to set up a new database (even if it is part
of the same single database, I still have to go through the setup)
* I have to have a separate copy of the MediaWiki code for every language or
figure out the wizardry to use a single version with different LocalSettings
per language
* I have to figure out how I'm going to sort out the problem of multiple
signons (each language will have separate signons - that is just so NOT what
you want when you just want a site in 2 languages (say).
I am in Belgium where every site is always in French and Dutch and I am
gradually figuring out each of the gotchas for my site www.treekee.com.
Next I want to figure out how to do it simply for a truly multinational site
(70+ languages).
It should ideally be as easy as saying, in LocalSettings.php, this is the
list of languages I want supported:
$langsSupported = array("en", "fr", "de", "pl", "zh");
$defaultLang = "en";
It's not. It's just a nightmare.

Our front page won't be named "Main_Page", but "Welcome to...". Is there
a way to change MW's "default" page? I'm guessing that moving the Main
Page to the page name we want to show up would write in an automatic
redirect, so that opening the site would open Main_Page, which would
then redirect to "Welcome to..."--but I don't know for sure (and don't
want to find out the hard way that it doesn't work!), and am also
wondering if there's a "better" way. I poked around in the
DefaultSettings.php and did searches on it, but the only hits I found
weren't relevant.
Also, a question that may or many not be relevant to MW, but since
you're reading :-) . . . the entry URL for the site is currently
http://www.myserver.com/site which opens up the main page. However,
http://www.myserver.com shows the contents of the directory the holds
the site directory. We certainly want that blocked, and if possible
(since for the time being the wiki is the only thing that will be
running at that site) would like a reference to http://www.myserver.com
to automatically open the front page of the wiki.
I've tried putting in a .htaccess denying all access into 'site''s
parent directory (just copied the one in "maintenance") so that
http://www.myserver.com/ would be blocked, but that doesn't seem to
work--do I need to restart the Apache server? And is a redirect via
.htaccess the simplest way to achieve the desired redirect from the site
name to the wiki?
As always, many thanks,
Ken
As a brand-new MW admin, my understanding is that the MediaWiki:
namespace has various protected special pages that might make my admin
task easier. But a search on "MediaWiki:" didn't turn up any titles, nor
can I find any other entry points to such pages. (I am operating with
full "sysop" access.) Am I misunderstanding something? Is most of the
administration currently done via mysql and editing .php files?
Thanks,
Ken
